Meet Our Church Council
Get to Know Us!
My family joined Cross of Life 33+ years ago when we moved to Waukesha. The Music and Christian Education programs drew us in, along with Ms. Gail providing care for our young son in the nursery! We felt at home with the worship services and programs. Our kids have grown up in this congregation in the Sunday School, Confirmation, and Youth Programs (our daughter was baptized here, also). I've volunteered as a Sunday School teacher, both the bell and Senior Choirs, various worship positions, and both Worship/Music and Youth Committees. I was honored to serve on Pr. John Horner-Ibler's and Pr. Josh Evan's call teams In the early 2000's, I was called as Youth Director at Cross of Life, and shortly after joined the Synod Staff as the Director of Youth Ministry splitting my time at both. Currently I'm a consultant for the office interiors industry following a 30+ year career in sales and leadership. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, gardening, cheering on the Brewers/Badgers/Packers, and every minute spent with my family and grandpups. It's an honor to be on Council during this season of ministry at UNITY.
The Duerr family joined Unity in 2019. Before accepting the Treasurer role, Michelle has been on the Finance committee for two years and is excited to take on a more active role at UNITY. Currently based in Pewaukee with two boys, Blake and Liam, who stay very active in sports. Michelle enjoys spending time with family & friends, reading, and playing card/board games. Professionally, Michelle is a Certified Public Accountant and currently works at Baird as their private equity Tax Manager.

I joined UNITY in November of 2022 because of the welcoming community atmosphere and the variety of ways to volunteer locally and beyond. I attend with my two children - Coby (9) and Mila (6) who attend Brookfield Elementary. In the Fall and Spring/Summer we stay very busy with soccer, ballet, and baseball. I grew up in the Twin Cities, MN area and have continued to be huge fan of the Vikings and Twins, which has made for some interesting and fun football seasons. I have lived in the Milwaukee Area for 25 years now working for a few software companies. In my spare time, I like to work on DIY projects and small technology projects around the house and help family and friends with their projects.
My husband, Rob, and I, along with our two children, Evelyn (15) and Robby (13), joined UNITY in 2022, drawn by the multiple service times and the opportunity for outdoor worship. Evelyn was confirmed in September 2025 and Robby is currently in the confirmation program. Both kids serve as VBS crew leaders, which has been a fun way for them to give back to the congregation.
I serve as the Adult Programs council member. In my professional role as Program Director at Siebert Lutheran Foundation, I spend a lot of time learning what churches across the region are doing to engage their members and communities and I'm excited to bring some of those ideas to UNITY. Outside of work, I enjoy reading, cooking and baking, traveling, walking/hiking, golfing, and cheering on my kids at their athletic events.
My husband, Jon, and our two children (Michael and Keira) joined UNITY in October, 2013.
We were looking for an ELCA church with a strong children's program and found our faith
family at UNITY. I enjoy teaching Sunday School and leading small groups with the Confirmation students. I started the role of Christian Education council member and have been exposed to so many additional opportunities at UNITY.
I obtained a Human Resources degree (BBA) from the University of Wisconsin- Oshkosh. I have been employed at Mercer since 2000, and currently lead their pension administration implementation team.
I grew up in Brookfield attending Cross of Life with my family. I recently reconnected with the Church, becoming UNITY members with my wife (Angie) and our 5-year-old daughter (Everly). Angie and I met at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and we currently live in Menomonee Falls. I’m a strong supporter of the Packers, Brewers, and Bucks and enjoy playing golf. I am a Certified Public Accountant and the Chief Accounting Officer at Artisan Partners.

My family first began attending UNITY in 2012, when my oldest kids were toddlers. After leaving for a six year stint in California, we moved back to Wisconsin in 2021 and solidly put down roots in Brookfield. We were welcomed back to UNITY with open arms and since then have embraced Sunday school, First communion, Confirmation classes and the multitude of servanthood opportunities that UNITY offers.
I am a physical therapist and enjoy running, cycling and anything outdoors. My husband, Joel, and I have four daughters and spend our days supporting them in various sports and extracurriculars. We are so grateful for the friends and strong community we’ve found in UNITY!
